While companies have been developing mobile payment solutions for some time, the technology is positioned to take off. The pay-by-phone market is forecast to make up $22 billion in transactions by 2015, up from "practically none" last year, according to research firm Aite Group. Mercatus LLC, a Boston-based consulting firm, said in a recent study that more than half of U.S. consumers, and almost 80 percent of those between the ages of 18 and 34, will use mobile financial services within five years.
