Nneka Chiazor is Vice President Public Policy & Government Affairs at Verizon Communications. She is the corporation’s leading advocate before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and other government agencies on cybersecurity and public safety policy. She is also Chair of the Department of Homeland Security’s Communications Sector Coordinating Council (CSCC) – a public-private partnership tasked with driving the security and resiliency of the communications sector.
Nneka has close to 20 years of telecommunications experience, and a broad policy and technical background in wireless, wireline and other technology areas. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Somos the trusted, neutral numbering and registry administrator for the telecommunications industry. As a Director she actively serves on the Compensation Committee and the Nomination Governance Committee.
Nneka has also been active in numerous civic and business organizations. This includes, the Federal Communications Bar Association, where she co-chaired the Bar’s committee on Homeland Security and Emergency Communications; the Next Generation 911 Institute, where she served on the Board of Trustees; and the African Women’s Entrepreneurship Program (AWEP) – a U.S. State Department initiative that seeks to dismantle the obstacles to business opportunities and economic participation that African women face.
She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada, and earned a Master of Science degree in Telecommunications Management from the University of Maryland. Nneka is a graduate of the Executive MBA program at Harvard Business School.
